3D Printing Systems officially launches Kickstarter campaign for the Bunker, a smart filament cartridge that helps you monitor and perfect the 3D printing process.
Auckland, September 1, 2016 – Anyone with a desktop 3D printer knows that painful feeling of a failed print, especially when the issue comes from running out of filament or clogging. It’s not easy to monitor your 3D printer all of the time, that’s why the Bunker is here to be your companion throughout the entire process. Developed by the Australia-based 3D printing company 3D Printing Systems, the Bunker is the world’s first smart filament cartridge, aiming to help makers focus on their printer and not concern themselves with issues caused by filament problems.
Today, 3D Printing Systems has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Bunker, and will seek to raise over $85,000 to help bring the smart filament cartridge into full-scale production. The Bunker was made to be your 3D printer’s best friend. Not only is it compatible with any filament on the market, but it also offers a number of vital features to enhance every facet of the 3D printing experience:
- Every Inch – Bunker keeps track of every last inch of your filament.
- Wireless – Stay informed when you’re away from your 3D printer.
- Moisture & Dust-Free– Improves reliability & quality of 3D printing.
- Statistics – Print times, duration, success, fails, mileage and more!
- Bunker App– Receive important notifications on your mobile.
- Print Settings– Find the perfect print settings for your filament brand.
“I’ve helped hundreds of people 3D print since 2011 and there are so many variables for getting that perfect print. When 3D printers work they are great. Tackling these common issues can be a real pain, so our team thought how we can make it easier for 3d printer users and that’s why we developed Bunker. It works with any 3d printer and any filament – we’ll just about any!” says Bruce Jackson, founder of 3D Printing Systems.
The Bunker system is an extremely easy system to use, simply scan the barcode of your filament, load the spool into the Bunker, and feed the filament through to the 3D printer as normal. You can start your print and walk away without having to worry about running out of filament or failed prints. In fact, when your filament is running low, the Bunker will send you a warning message to your mobile device, giving you the opportunity to add more material and resume printing. Essentially, the Bunker helps you save both your print job and your time.
Additional features of the Bunker include material usage tracking, which keeps the user informed on how much filament has been used and how much is left on the spool. Using the bar code, the user can log their filament in and out of the smart filament cartridge. The Bunker will also provide comprehensive statistics that were collected and recorded during printing process. By keeping track of these statistics on Bunker’s app-based or browser-based dashboard, the user will get an idea of the ‘mileage’ their printer has done. From material used, to how many printing hours it has done, the Bunker will even tell you what brands of filaments are the most successful.
Not only does the Bunker gather information and keep the user informed, it also keeps filament in the optimal environment. The Bunker provides a sealed, protected spooling chamber, which keeps your filament dust free and prolongs the life of your nozzle and extruder. Additionally, the Bunker system is also equipped with a moisture sensor, which will alert the user when their filament reaches high humidity levels.
The Bunker will include a Cloud platform that will keep all of your statistics and settings neatly gathered. Bunker EDU, which is specially designed for the classroom setting, will allow multiple users to log on or off of the system, ensuring that each individual student or educator has their own personalized 3D printing journey documented.
The Bunker includes a universal spool holder, and works with just about any type of 1.75mm or 3mm filament, including PLA, ABS, Wood, Copper, Flexible, PETG, HIPS, PC. In addition, the enclosed environment works exceptionally well for materials that are hydroscopic like PVA, PC, and Nylon. Although the Bunker is an ideal system for 3D printing enthusiasts of all experience levels, the smart filament cartridge system is especially useful for educational endeavors.
All in all, the Bunker will be the ultimate companion to your 3D printer, ensuring the optimal use of your filament, keeping you informed on your print progress without having to physically sit and watch the grueling process, and most importantly, helping you achieve the highest quality print possible.
The Bunker Kickstarter campaign has officially launched, and is offering the Bunker at an discounted early bird price for a limited time. The smart filament storage system is expected to ship in March 2017.
